Youths of Oba in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have blocked the Onitsha-Owerri expressway, denying motorists passage.
The youths said their actions were based on the killing of an innocent youth on Monday night by people they alleged to be operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), who are popularly called Ebubeagu in the area.
Thousands of youths on Tuesday morning blocked the road, while trucks conveying goods and passengers were denied passage.
A video being circulated on social media showed the deceased body of the victim lying in an open truck at the venue of the protest.
A commentator, who obviously recorded the video, said the youth, who is an indigene of Oba and a shop owner in the area, was in front of his shop the previous night when he was shot by the vigilante operative, unprovoked.
These allegations were, however, not verified as at the time of filing this report, as attempts to do so were not yet successful.
The public relations officer of AVG, Mr Nweke Nweke, who was reached by DAILY POST with the videos, pleaded for more time to verify and get back to us.
