Transfer: Maybe it’s a mistake – Guardiola refuses to sign backup for Haaland

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has confirmed he will not bring in another striker as backup for Erling Haaland.

Julian Alvarez left City for Atletico Madrid in a deal that could be worth up to £81 million.

Alvarez’s exit has left Guardiola with Haaland as the only senior striker in his squad.

And despite links to several players, City have not brought in anyone else apart from winger Savinho and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Guardiola told reporters about not signing any backup for Haaland: “Maybe it’s a mistake, I don’t know, but I like to work with not a long, long, long squad.

“I don’t like to leave a lot of players without playing for a long, long time.”
