EPL: Shearer expresses doubt over Haaland, names striker to break his goals record

Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has said although he accepts Erling Haaland is the best striker in the world, he is not convinced the Manchester City man will beat his Premier League goals record.

Haaland has begun the current campaign in fine form, scoring two hat-tricks in three games.

Overall, the Norway international has netted 70 times in 69 Premier League appearances.

However, Shearer is not convinced Haaland will break his record which stands at 260 goals, as the uncertainty at City may see him leave the Etihad.

Shearer said BetFair: “I think if Harry Kane was to come back to the Premier League in a couple of years, then he may have a chance of breaking my record, but there’s no doubt that if Erling Haaland stays here for the next five or six years, the way he’s going, then he will absolutely break it.

“We’ll have to wait and see though; we don’t know what’s going to happen with Man City and the charges, we don’t know what’s going to happen with Pep Guardiola and his time at the club.”
