Super Eagles: Criticising Finidi George after one win is pointless —Regha

Popular social media commentator Daniel Regha has hit out at Nigerians who criticised former Super Eagles coach Finidi George on social media following Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier 3-0 win over Benin Republic on Saturday.

Goals from Ademola Lookman (2) and Victor Osimhen gave the Super Eagles all three points against Benin in Uyo.

Following the game, some Nigerians on X criticised Finidi, who resigned as the head coach of the Super Eagles in June, saying he was the problem for the team’s poor display against Benin Republic and South Africa in the World Cup qualifiers in June.

However, Regha believes it is ‘pointless’ to criticise Finidi after just one win.

According to him, the Super Eagles are yet to prove they can rival tougher opponents.

“Criticising Finidi George after just one win is pointless because the Super Eagles are yet to prove that they can rival tougher opponents; In every poor performance, the players also share in the blame, not just the coach,” Regha wrote on X after the game.

“Again, we look past our players’ errors once it’s a win, then complain bitterly when they get outplayed by a better-prepared team.”
