Former Education Minister, Oby Ezekwesili, has called for the release of lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi.

DAILY POST had reported that Farotimi was picked up by men of the Nigeria Police Force from Zone 2 Command in Lagos State.

His arrest followed a defamation petition filed by Chief Afe Babalola, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, accusing him of defaming his client.

He has earlier raised concerns over alleged threats to his life by influential figures within Nigerian political circles.

Reacting, Oby, in a post on her X page, wrote: “Just read the disturbing news on the great #ActiveCitizen @DeleFarotimi.

“Has the @PoliceNG made a statement yet on what they know or have learnt about his whereabouts?

“Dele speaks the mind of majority of the Nigerian citizens every time he speaks “Truth to Power.”

“His right to continue to keep government accountable in all its dealings must be protected.

“I advise the IGP to ask his officers to provide an update on Mr Farotimi and secure his release urgently.”
