The Benue State Police Command has arrested eight persons over their alleged involvement in several armed robbery cases in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Steve Yabanet, made this known in a statement on Tuesday in Makurdi.
Yabanet said the command arrested and detained the suspected leader of the vicious highway robbery gang along the Makurdi-Lafia road on December 2, following intelligence gathering.
According to him, the alleged 29-year-old gang leader, Terhemba Dabo, popularly known as ‘Kough,’ who hails from Udei, Guma Local Government Area (LGA), had been on the wanted list of the police for a long time.
The Commissioner disclosed that the gang leader was arrested in his hideout in the International Market area in Makurdi.
He added that further investigation led to the arrest and detention of other gang members in Udei, Guma LGA.
Those arrested include Kwaghve Asemapav, Aondonenga Awarga, Nongun Mbakuugh, Nomsoo Rapheal, Kpaver Godwin, Joseph Jimeshio, and Desen Kaashima, all of Udei town.
“These suspects led the police to the camp where the many exhibits were recovered.
‘Some of the recovered items include one G-3 rifle, three pairs of camouflage uniforms, one bulletproof jacket, one beret, one police uniform, a black boot, and a carved wooden rifle.
“The suspects have confessed to the crime, and detailed investigation is ongoing to apprehend others at large.
“Let me use this opportunity to warn criminals to desist from criminal activities or relocate, as the command, under my watch, will not accommodate them.
“The suspects will soon have their days in court after completion of the investigation,” he said
