The officers of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps have arrested two suspected Indian hemp dealers and recovered a total of 108 bags of cannabis sativa in a recent operation carried out by them.
According to the press release signed and made public by the Head of Communications Department, Adeleye Abiodun Adewale, the arrest of one Alade Kehinde, aged 45, and one Dada Kehinde, aged 55, both of whom hail from Ondo State and reside in Owo Local Government Area, was revealed.
Adeleye, in the press release, revealed that the two suspected dealers of Indian hemp were accosted by the officers of the Ekiti State Amotekun Corps during a routine night patrol by the Amotekun officers patrolling the Emure Local Government Area.
During the arrest, “The Amotekun officers at Emure Ekiti intercepted and impounded a white unregistered (J5) van, conveying a total of 108 bags of cannabis sativa, better known as ‘Indian hemp,’ at the border town of Emure Ekiti in Ekiti State and that of Owo in Ondo State.”
Adding, “The efforts of the two suspects to induce the officers of the Amotekun Corps with a sum of N500,000 failed due to them turning down the offer,” the state commander confirmed.
Upon interrogating the two suspects, they confessed to committing the crime, noting that “they were driving the fully-loaded Indian hemp vehicle to an unspecified destination in Ondo State before they were apprehended and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ekiti State, along with the exhibits and vehicle, for proper investigation,” according to them.
