Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has condemned the theft of a significant quantity of rice from the state government’s farm in the Jangwa community of Awe Local Government Area.
The governor revealed the incident on Thursday while addressing a delegation from the Azara community, led by Sarkin Azara, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim, at the Government House in Lafia.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra, Governor Sule described the theft as a serious setback to the government’s efforts to bolster food security and support residents amid economic challenges.
“While the state government is pleased with the yield recorded, it is saddened by the level of theft during the harvest,” Sule remarked.
The governor condemned the actions of the criminals, calling their activities unfortunate, especially given the state’s intensified efforts to combat hunger and improve agricultural productivity.
“This level of theft is disheartening, particularly at a time when we are doing everything possible to bring relief to our people and ensure food security in Nasarawa and beyond,” he said.
Sule also issued a stern warning, vowing that those caught stealing from the farm would face the full wrath of the law.
Despite the incident, Governor Sule reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agricultural development and food security.
He expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers and local residents for their support, which has significantly contributed to the success of the government’s agricultural programs in the area.
“We will not be deterred. Nasarawa State, being an agricultural hub, must have its government leading the charge in agricultural activities,” the governor added.
