Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, on Friday, deployed a Special Operations Brigade to Sokoto and Kebbi States as part of moves to combat the Lakurawas terrorists group causing mayhem in some states.
The Nigerian Army Headquarters made this known in a statement posted on its official X microblogging platform.
According to the statement, the deployment aims to build on the successes already recorded by the military during the precursor operations under Operation Forest Sanity III.
It was gathered that the military had in previous operations, targeted forests and enclaves in areas such as Rumji Dutse, Tsauna and Bauni, East of Sarma, Malgatawa, Gargao, Magara Forest and Tsauna, Kaideji, Nakuru, Sama, Sanyinna, Kadidda, Kolo, and Dancha Villages in Tangaza, Illela and Binji Local Government Areas.
The operations, according to the Army Headquarters, resulted in the destruction of 22 camps, neutralization of several terrorists, and the recovery of four rifles, 409 rounds of PKT 7.62mm NATO ammunition, and 94 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The General Officer Commanding 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose on Friday addressed the troops on behalf of the Theatre Commander, Major General Oluyinka Soyele.
He tasked the troops with ensuring the complete neutralization of the Lakurawas sect.
Brigadier General Ajose emphasized adherence to rules of engagement and the importance of protecting the lives and property of law-abiding citizens.
