The Gombe State Police Command on Tuesday paraded two suspects for allegedly purchasing two bags of beans using counterfeit naira notes.
The suspects, identified as Garba Audu, also known as the “Youth Leader of APC,” and Kabiru Abubakar, are both residents of Layin Arfa in Gombe State.
The victim, Idris Usman, revealed that the suspects approached him while he was en route to Lariski Market with two bags of beans on his Bajaj motorcycle.
After negotiating a price of ₦210,000, Usman later discovered the cash handed to him was counterfeit and raised an alarm, leading to their arrest.
During a press briefing, the Police Public Relations Officer for Gombe State Command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the incident.
He stated, “The suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation and disclosed that the counterfeit money was supplied by one Abdullahi, alias ‘Manci,’ of Potiskum Local Government Area, Yobe State, who is currently at large.”
Abdullahi further detailed the evidence recovered during the investigation.
“The suspects were arrested, and their vehicle was searched, leading to the recovery of two bags of beans and ₦39,000 in counterfeit notes.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.” He concluded, while commending the public for their vigilance and cooperation in providing critical information that facilitated the arrests.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to cracking down on such crimes and urged anyone with further information about the whereabouts of the fugitive, Abdullahi, to come forward.
