Yuletide: Police arrest 24 suspected thugs, recover dangerous weapons in Kano

Ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Kano State Police Command has arrested at least 24 suspected thugs from across the state.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the development followed clearance operations conducted in areas including Kofar Mata, Yakasai, Zango, Zage, among others.

DAILY POST recalls that thugs had clashed in these areas earlier in December, leading to the killing of two residents.

The command said the clearance operations, carried out between 13th and 16th December 2024, also led to the recovery of several dangerous weapons.

“In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on community-centered policing and strategic security measures, the Command engaged security stakeholders, including Ward Heads, Local Vigilante Groups, Elders, and Businessmen.

“Public enlightenment and sensitization campaigns were also conducted through radio, television, and social media.

“From December 13 – 16, 2024, clearance operations within Kano Metropolis resulted in the arrest of 24 suspected thugs and the recovery of dangerous weapons. All suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

“The Commissioner of Police expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of the good people of Kano State and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime and maintaining law and order.”
