The Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, on Thursday announced that it intercepted contrabands worth N229.11 million at different locations in the state.
This contraband includes 2,169 bags of foreign parboiled rice weighing 50kg each, 1,128 parcels of cannabis sativa, commonly known as marijuana, weighing 1,109.3kg, 21 bales and 2 sacks of used clothes, 166 pieces of pneumatic tyres, and 4,360 cartons of imported shoes among others.
Speaking to newsmen at a press conference held by the Command in Idiroko, the Acting Area Controller, Mohammed Shuaibu said the contrabands were intercepted at Idiroko, Ilaro, Alamal-Rounda axis, Obada Oko-Abeokuta axis, Abule Kazeem-Abeokuta axis and
Imeko-Afon axis of the state.
Shuaibu noted that the operations were executed through intelligence gathering, strategic surveillance and collaboration of patriotic Nigerians.
Expressing his gratitude to the CGC, Bashir Adeniyi and officers of the Ogun I Command for their dedication, Shuaibu reiterated the Command’s commitment to curbing smuggling networks that undermine the economy, endanger lives, and hinder the growth of local industries.
He said, “We are gathered here today to update you on the outcomes of our operational activities, which have led to remarkable seizures at various locations within Ogun State.
“Within the past few days, the Ogun I Command has successfully intercepted the items highlighted below with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N229,112,424.00.
“2,169 bags of foreign parboiled rice weighing 50kg each, smuggled through unapproved routes; 1,128 parcels of cannabis sativa, commonly known as marijuana, weighing 1,109.3kg. 21 bales and 2 sacks of used clothes, 166 pieces of pneumatic tyres.
“4,360 cartons of imported shoes, 250 kegs of PMS weighing 25 litres each, 20 units of vehicles used for conveyance, 1 unit of foreign used vehicle, 2012 model Toyota Highlander.”
He assured that the Command will remain vigilant and continue to collaborate with sister security agencies to rid society of the menace.
Meanwhile, the Acting Controller warned smugglers and their collaborators to desist from their illegal activities or face the warth of the law, adding that, the command is prepared to match their activities.
DAILY POST reports that Shuaibu took over from Comptroller James Ojo, who proceeded on retirement after 35 years of service at the NCS.
