Army Council approves promotion of 108 senior officers, charges them to justify elevation

The Army Council has approved the promotion of senior officers to the ranks of Major General and Brigadier General.

Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, stated in a press release that 35 Brigadier Generals have been promoted to the rank of Major General, while 73 Colonels have been elevated to the rank of Brigadier General.

Among those promoted to the rank of Major General are Brigadier General A. Garba, Acting Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army, and Brigadier General U.M. Alkali, Deputy Chief of Administration, among others.

Officers promoted from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier General include Colonel S.M. Iliya, Commander of the 43 Engineers Brigade; Colonel O. Igwe, Commander of the 78 Supply and Transport; Colonel N.E. Udofia, Headquarters Nigerian Army Electrical Mechanical Engineers; Colonel U.R. Okoroji, Commander of the 404 Engineers Brigade; and Colonel G.S. Oyinwola, Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary, among others.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, congratulated the newly promoted senior officers and their families. He urged them to redouble their efforts to justify their elevation and the confidence reposed in them.

He further tasked the newly promoted officers to lead by example and develop “out-of-the-box” ideas and innovations to swiftly address contemporary security challenges facing the nation.

Lieutenant General Oluyede emphasized the importance of remaining committed to their oath of allegiance to defend the nation and maintaining unwavering loyalty to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
