Micheal Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, confidentially informed our correspondent on Monday that the unhappy traveler had been turned over to the police and charged with a crime. Achimugu affirmed that the passenger will face legal action in accordance with the rules, saying, “The NCAA continues to educate stakeholders about unruly behavior and the penalties it attracts.”
“The rules clearly state that no provocation justifies violence at the airport,” he said. Depending on the intensity, some actions, including using violence to impede an aircraft’s progress, may be considered acts of terrorism (to be judged by the police).
After being brought to the police, she spent two nights in custody. Despite being charged, she was given bail. That was the last information I received from the airline, and I will receive further details later today (Monday).
“I plan to meet with Avsec and FAAN because there seems to be room for improvement in the protocols for handling unruly passengers,” Achimugu said when asked why she wasn’t deboarded to prevent holding other passengers hostage.
