The announcement was made on Monday, one day after Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson reaffirmed his commitment to opposing Trump’s comprehensive reform. that Trump had pledged to enforce nationwide border security regulations. In that context, Trump also issued an executive order on Monday, when he returned to the White House.
However, Chicago officials vowed not to cooperate with Trump’s request to return illegal immigrants to their home nations. According to Chicago police, the department does not keep track of people’s immigration status or provide data to federal authorities.
