The reason why several former colleagues of his principal in the banking and commercial sectors are avoiding him in public has been revealed by Moses Paul, an advisor to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender. Paul revealed that Obi’s business and banking acquaintances had avoided him in public out of fear of reprisals from President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In an interview with Rudolf Okonkwo on 90MinutesAfrica, he revealed this. Paul described how, during a recent event in Kigali, Rwanda, Aliko Dangote and other Nigerian businessmen stayed away from Obi. On one occasion, I went to Rwanda with Mr. Peter Obi, he stated. Alongside other prominent Nigerian bankers and businessmen, Alhaji Aliko Dangote was in Kigali for a conference.
People in the financial industry who were friends with Peter Obi avoided being seen with him out of fear of reprisals from the Tinubu administration against them or their companies. This is unbelievable. People in the twenty-first century are frightened to be seen with an opposition leader because they are worried about what the current government would do. This is shocking. Nigeria, the only place on earth where Black people have a chance for a future, shouldn’t be the source of this.
