Laide Bakare has recently addressed an incident that unfolded between her and fellow actress Eniola Badmus during the premiere of “Owambe Thieves” on April 13, 2025, at Circle Mall in Lagos. The glamorous event, filled with Nigerian celebrity appearances, became the scene of a confrontation that almost escalated into a physical altercation.
Amid ongoing speculation about their confrontation, Bakare took to Instagram Live to share her side of the story. She suggested that the tension was rooted in Badmus’s jealousy, claiming it was fueled by Bakare’s natural beauty and avoidance of cosmetic procedures.Bakare labeled Badmus as “inauthentic,” accusing her of photo editing and resorting to surgeries to achieve her desired look. She remarked, “Eniola, your nakedness is horrible. I figured out that is one of your problems with me. I didn’t do no surgery; as I am, I’m not wearing makeup. Anybody that sees me in real life will definitely want to touch me; I am that clean.” This declaration ignited considerable discussion across social media platforms, capturing the attention of fans and entertainment news outlets alike.
Reflecting on the past, Bakare recalled giving Badmus her first significant role in Nollywood back in 2002 when Eniola was regarded as overweight and not conventionally attractive. She boldly stated, “When I cast you for that role, Eniola, you were ugly and fat, very obese.”During the premiere, Bakare alleged that Badmus repeatedly highlighted their strained relationship by loudly expressing her disdain for being filmed near Bakare. Bakare compared this situation to prior bullying and recalled an unpleasant direct message from Badmus two years ago where she referred to Bakare as an animal.
“I am a shy person,” Bakare expressed, emphasizing her discomfort. “You just kept coming to my space, and you kept saying ‘I am not your friend.’ Why are you saying it to the camera that I should not be recorded with you?”The incident has triggered a flurry of reactions online, with mixed views from fans. While some sided with Bakare, others voiced criticism of her actions, contributing to a lively discussion.
