Sunday Echege, a 33-year-old resident of Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in the Ibagwa-Ani community of the Nsukka local government area, was detained by Enugu State Police Command’s Okpuje Division for allegedly severing his wife Chinonso Echege’s left wrist due to infidelity.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
The arrest was made possible with the help of law-abiding community members, according to a statement released by the command spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe. The suspect also revealed that the machete used in the murder had been found. According to Ndukwe, initial inquiries showed that the suspect claimed to have acted because he suspected his wife of having extramarital affairs.
He went on to say that after the investigations are over, the suspect will be arraigned in court. The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal inquiry Department (CID) has been instructed by the state’s commissioner of police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, to guarantee a prompt and comprehensive inquiry into the incident.
In addition, the statement said that CP Uzuegbu encouraged couples to settle their issues amicably and legally rather than by engaging in violent criminal activity. For medical treatment, the wife has been sent by the Enugu State government to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital. This was revealed on Tuesday by the state’s Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Mrs. Ngozi Enih.
“We are investigating this tragic event to make sure that justice is served. According to the evidence we have, during a fight, the man in question intended for the wife’s head but instead chopped off her left hand when she attempted to defend herself from the machete. Additionally, she suffered damage to her right hand.
As soon as we received the information, we acted quickly and had him taken into custody. He is currently being held by the police. However, saving the victim’s life is currently the most pressing issue. She is now receiving complete medical care at Enugu State University Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, as a result of our relocation.
She insisted that the state administration is treating the case seriously and that the governor’s wife, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, is personally involved in the horrific situation and has sworn to see justice done.
