Since then, Abolore Lawal, the suspected yahoo boy, has been extradited to the United States of America for extorting Guffey Gavin, a 17-year-old American, till he killed himself. According to reports, Lawal forced the child to send him graphic pictures by pretending to be a girl. Then, if the boy didn’t give him money, he threatened to distribute the photos. Guffey Gavin, then 17 years old, committed suicide in 2022 because he was unable to cope with the stress.
After being detained in October 2023, Lawal was recently deported to South Carolina, USA, where he is expected to serve a life term and pay restitution. In South Carolina, sextortion is now illegal, especially when children are involved.
