Stakeholders such as Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu Stare; Adulphus Wabara, the chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT); and other prominent elders were not present at the reaffirmation, which took place during a meeting in Wadata Plaza.
Samuel Anyanwu chaired the meeting, and Deputy National Legal Advisor Okechukwu Osuoha reiterated Anyanwu’s stance. The meeting also reaffirmed Ali Odefa’s dismissal as the PDP National Vice Chairman South East, citing the motion from his Ebonyi ward and the ruling from an Ebonyi court on November 29, 2024.
The stakeholders meeting also confirmed Chidebere Egwu as the new National Vice Chairman, South East, in accordance with the motion made on December 3, 2024, for the Ebonyi state stakeholders to choose Egwu as Ali Odefa’s successor to serve out his term. Anyanwu described in his opening remarks how he wrote to the party to let them know he would only be gone for three months so he could run for governor of Imo state.
However, he clarified that Ali Odefa “blackmailed me by declaring my seat vacant using fictitious PDP election guidelines.” He claims that they asked me to leave the party and declared my post as National Secretary vacant using fictitious election standards.
“It is only through the convention that I can be removed,” Anyanwu said, adding that he was chosen by a National Convention. In his remarks, the party’s deputy national legal adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha, urged the leaders to strive for peaceful cohabitation, stating that the party can only challenge the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2027 if there is peace.
He stated, “We want to make sure that the party’s constitution is followed when it comes to the administration of the party in the South East.” He announced that Okechukwu Egwu had taken Ali Odefa’s post as the Deputy National Vice Chairman for the South East zone. South East stakeholders, Obinna Chidoka, and the state chairs of Imo and Abia states attended the conference.
