He claimed that since taking office as Governor of Rivers, “his constitutional oath of office and a great sense of duty” have guided his administration. Fubara claimed to have made safeguarding people and property his top priority and to have made sure the state continued to advance. Despite the state’s declared state of emergency, Rivers Governor Siminilayi Fubara has asked the populace to maintain their composure and adherence to the law.
“We have stayed dedicated to constitutional order and the rule of law, prioritizing the interests of our people over everything else, notwithstanding the political impasse. We did not hesitate to implement the agreed parameters in good faith, including welcome back commissioners who had previously resigned on their own volition, as soon as Mr. President intervened to broker peace.
As soon as he obtained the certified true copy of the Supreme Court’s ruling, they reportedly took quick action to bring the state back to normal. He said that these actions were done to promote peace, unity, and stability in our beloved state rather than for personal benefit. “Sadly, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly thwarted our efforts at every turn, making real peace and progress challenging,” he said. He stated that improving the welfare and prosperity of the Rivers people as well as ensuring the safety of persons and property continued to be the top goals of his administration.
Notwithstanding political differences inside the state, Fubara pointed out that excellent projects were being carried out to advance the state, salaries were being paid, and good governance had persisted. He claimed that overall, the state was secure, safe, and tranquil while he was in charge. The Rivers people, according to Fubara, had always been strong and would handle the current circumstance with discernment, tolerance, and steadfast faith in the democratic process.
In order to maintain the strength of our democracy and the prosperity of Rivers State, Fubara stated, “We will work with all pertinent institutions.” The state’s ongoing political instability prompted President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on Tuesday.
