Five operatives were tragically killed in a violent altercation between tipper drivers and SASA members, according to SASA spokesman Amb. Karen James. She stated the town is in disbelief over the occurrence, which witnesses described as a planned and organized attack by the drivers.
The spokesperson clarified that the squad had conducted an enforcement operation inside the infamous garage in Oba. Drug dealing, armed robbery, and other illegal operations are known to occur often in the neighborhood. When the drivers were crushed to death, the SASA agents were there to perform their legal duty, not to stop them. James emphasized, “It is a flagrant falsehood to say that SASA tried to stop the tippers on the road.
Tipper drivers with guns surrounded the anti-touting unit as soon as they arrived, according to eyewitness accounts. The SASA officers made a last-ditch effort to return to their base in order to escape the dangerous scenario. However, it is reported that the drivers killed five officers by purposefully ramming them with their tippers and blocking all escape routes. Four people are still missing, and six more are in the hospital.
James further claimed that the drivers planned the assault in order to retrieve objects that had been seized earlier in the operation. After making sure the officers were dead, the attackers left the area. Investigations are in progress, and the police and other security forces have begun a manhunt for the offenders. Authorities have pledged to restore order to the problematic neighborhood and hold those culpable accountable.
Residents of the Oba neighborhood are calling for more security and a comprehensive crackdown on criminal elements in response to this unfortunate incident, which has caused widespread outrage. Additionally, the spokesperson urged anyone who knows of SASA’s pursuit of the tipper drivers to come forward and help with the inquiry.
