Amid the protracted internal crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, which has seen the party factionalised, Makinde and Wike have always been in one camp
Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Wike led a group of five PDP governors, known as G-5, which included Makinde, to work against the victory of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Currently, the party is also divided over whether the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, should stay in office or vacate his seat.
Wike wants Damagum to stay and Makinde and three other governors are with him against another group of governors led by the Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed
However, there appears to be a sharp departure when Makinde, at the PDP governors’ meeting in Asaba, Delta State at the weekend, aligned with the Mohammed-led group to reject Samuel Anyanwu, a favourite of the Wike camp, as the National Secretary of the party.
The PDP governors, at the meeting, unanimously affirmed Anyanwu’s rival, Sunday Ude-Okoye, as the recognised PDP National Secretary, a situation interpreted to mean Wike losing out.
On why the governors decided to affirm Ude-Okoye, a source said the PDP governors were fed up with Wike’s influence on the party, thus, they united in their opposition to his ally and decided, instead, to endorse Ude-Okoye as National Secretary
Asked on Sunday if the development meant that the cordial relationship between Makinde and Wike had broken down, the Oyo governor’s CPS dismissed the insinuation.
“I have no idea what you are talking about,” Olanrewaju said. “I am not aware of any crack between Governor Seyi Makinde and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. The governor is mourning now so I don’t know where you got the information of a crack between them from. I am not aware of any crack whatsoever.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
