In order to take part in the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government, President Bola Tinubu has traveled to Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The dates of the summit are set for February 14–18, 2025. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, revealed this in a statement titled “President Tinubu arrives Ethiopia for AU summit,” which he signed early on Friday morning.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
“Eshetu Legesse, the Ethiopian Deputy Chief of Protocol, Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Nasir Aminu, the charge d’affaires of the Nigerian embassy in Ethiopia, met the President at the airport,” the statement said. Later, at a meeting that lasted until around two in the morning on Friday, Tuggar gave President Tinubu an update on the summit and some diplomatic victories for the nation.
Bankole Adeoye’s reelection as the African Union’s Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security was one of them. According to Tuggar, the African Union Peace and Security Council reaffirmed “Nigeria’s leadership and commitment to peace and security on the continent” and Nigeria was able to keep its place on the council.
This year’s AU summit, with the theme “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations,” focuses on reparatory justice and racial healing. The Ministers of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun; Defense, Abubakar Badaru; Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole; Aviation, Festus Keyamo; Information and National Orientation, Muhammad Idris; Environment, Balarabe Lawal; and State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, were in attendance. Mohammed Mohammed, the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, also attended the briefing.
At the African Union Peace and Security Council’s summit-level meeting, Tinubu will speak about the continent’s current security issues, such as the escalation of the conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The President will also attend meetings on climate change, health financing, and the creation of an Africa Credit Rating Agency.
