After a 300-level female student assaulted one of their instructors, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (UNIZIK) officials have now issued a formal statement.
The event, which has since gone viral online, was addressed in a statement issued by Njelita Louis O., the Ag. Head of Information, Public Relations Protocol. The public was reassured in the statement that the occurrence has been noted and that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted by the school officials. The text of the statement said: A troubling occurrence between Goddy Mbakwe Precious, a third-year student in the Department of History and International Studies, and Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Studies, has been brought to the attention of Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s management in Awka.
The university administration is taking the incident, which has received a lot of attention on social media, very seriously. ln accordance with the ideals of fair hearing and along with our fundamental values of excellence, independence, and discipline. Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph 1. Ikechebelu has mandated a thorough, open, and impartial investigation into the issue in order to ensure equity and justice. We implore the public and all parties involved to maintain composure as we assiduously seek the truth.
The institution is dedicated to maintaining decorum and discipline, and we will make sure that, depending on the investigation’s findings, the proper measures and penalties are implemented. High moral and ethical standards are still upheld by Nnamdi Azikiwe University as an educational institution.
