Renowned political activist Deji Adeyanju has reportedly urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make a tough decision between resolving the complaints of the Niger Delta region and backing Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State, according to the SYMFONI TV report. Wike, who has recently found himself in the spotlight due to his close ties with the federal government, is accused of being a “political parasite” by Adeyanju and other prominent figures. The term, which has gained traction on social media, reflects growing discontent with Wike’s alleged opportunistic politics and his perceived role in undermining regional interests for personal gain.
“Wike’s actions are detrimental to the people of the Niger Delta. He has been more of a liability than an asset, and it is time for President Tinubu to decide where his allegiance lies,” Adeyanju stated in a recent interview. “The Niger Delta deserves better representation and fair treatment, rather than having a leader who undermines their collective interests.”
The harsh critique from Adeyanju and his supporters centers on what they describe as Wike’s disregard for regional concerns, particularly in relation to the well-being of Niger Delta communities. Activists argue that Wike’s political maneuvering has sidelined the region’s demands for development, justice, and accountability.
In a related statement, Adeyanju also addressed a controversial comment made by Wike regarding the rights of individuals in the region. According to Adeyanju, Wike’s statements reflect a gross violation of constitutional rights. “Also, that comment amounts to a gross violation of rights because the constitution said that you don’t discriminate against anybody,” Adeyanju explained. “If your rights have been violated, you can seek redress in court. So, as a governor, when you address the press, you choose your words carefully.”
He further emphasized Wike’s responsibility as a seasoned lawyer, stating, “You are not just a governor, you are a lawyer. You are not just a lawyer; you are a member of the Body of Benchers. You are not just a member of the Body of Benchers; your wife is a judge. Your daughter is a judge of the FCT High Court.
