The political climate in Rivers State, which is marked by tensions with Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara, may approach a crisis point in light of the Supreme Court’s decision that supported lawmakers led by Hon. Martin Amaewhule. The state assembly seems ready to take calculated actions to accuse the governor of a number of constitutional violations. In a letter signed by Speaker Rt. Hon. Bello and his four suspected accomplices were in court when he begged the judge to free his fellow suspects, stating that they had no knowledge of the act. On Thursday, March 6, suspect Abdul Rahman Bello, the Islamic cleric who is charged with the murder and mutilation of a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, Hafsoh Lawal of Adefalu compound, Okelele, Ilorin, said in court that he committed the horrible act alone.
Bello, who was present in court with his four suspected accomplices, begged the judge to free his other suspects, stating unequivocally that they were unaware of the act. Bello claimed that he killed and dismembered Hafsoh, whom he had met on Facebook, by himself. Suleiman Muhyideen, Jamiu Uthman, AbdulRahman Jamiu, and Ahmed AbdulWasiu are the four additional defendants that were arraigned with Bello.
However, the judge instructed Bello to make this motion when he arrives in the High judge, where the case has been transferred for a fair trial. The Kwara State Ministry of Justice just stated that it will be taking over the case. Barr. Issa Zakari, the Ministry’s attorney, told the court that the defendant (Bello) had a case to answer and that the director of public prosecution’s (DPP) legal counsel was available.
Dr. Folorunso Ahmad Hussein, the deceased’s family’s attorney, urged for justice for Hafsoh and the family but did not oppose to the ministry’s motion. However, Sanusi Muhammad, the presiding magistrate, ordered the accused to be remanded to Oke Kura Correctional Centre, Ilorin, and postponed the case until March 20, 2025, for additional discussion.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
