Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, has denied reports that he intends to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to the statement, “We have noticed that certain news outlets are disseminating untrue rumors that Atiku Abubakar is quitting the PDP.”
“We wish to clarify that such claims are completely untrue and lack any basis,” the statement continued. “In 2027, Atiku has repeatedly called for a powerful coalition of opposition parties to take on the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) inept and unpleasant leadership.” “He is promoting a wide coalition that encompasses the PDP and all other opposition parties.”
Therefore, it is untrue to say that Atiku is quitting the PDP. Such rumors go counter to his objective of uniting the opposition in order to save Nigeria. “We want to clarify that Atiku is still a committed member of the main opposition party, the PDP.” “Any information to the contrary is intended to mislead Nigerians about the size of the coalition being formed to oppose the APC.”
As Atiku’s political connections with former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai grew, there were rumors that he was planning to defect. According to some reports, difficulties within their respective parties may be prompting politicians and their supporters to look into other political approaches. El-Rufai has publicly voiced his dissatisfaction with the APC and has recently clashed with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He has stated that he would not join the PDP, but he has implied that he would depart if the party deviates too much from its core beliefs.
