“I am not a member of Saraki’s Senate,” Akpabio declares, leveling serious accusations. (Visual) Saraki rejected Akpabio’s argument that demands for an open probe into the accusations were a ruse to remove him due to his Niger Delta origins in a statement released by his media assistant, Yusuph Olaniyonu.
“Akpabio needs to carefully examine my comments from March 1, 2025. I never mentioned that he should quit. Saraki stated, “Instead, I counseled him to preserve the integrity of the legislature by guaranteeing a comprehensive and transparent inquiry that eliminates any possibility of uncertainty.” Saraki charged that by bringing up political and ethnic prejudices, Akpabio was trying to deflect attention from the important issues at hand.
The Senate President’s remarks in front of some alleged young leaders are misleading in that they imply that because he is from the Niger Delta, the people of Kwara and Adamawa States want him removed from office. “This is just a distortion of the facts and cheap politics,” he remarked. He pointed out that the accusations made by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan should not be dismissed because they pertain to sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and misuse of office.
Saraki: It’s Time for an Open Investigation The former Senate President reaffirmed that accountability and transparency are essential to the Senate’s legitimacy. This has nothing to do with the veracity of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s assertion. It’s about making sure the National Assembly doesn’t give the idea that it is defending influential people who have been charged with grave wrongdoing,” Saraki underlined.
He also emphasized how Senate rules, legislative precedence, and constitutional restrictions all offer precise instructions for dealing with such delicate issues. Regardless of Akpabio’s party or geopolitical zone, Saraki said his position will not change, rejecting any suggestion of political bias. This isn’t about the APC or PDP. Neither North Central nor South-South are relevant. He said, “It is about upholding the Senate’s integrity and doing the right thing.”
He cautioned Akpabio that taking use of ethnic or regional feelings would damage the National Assembly’s credibility as well as his own reputation. “This Matter Is Serious, Not Sensitive.” Saraki emphasized how crucial it is to handle instances of gender discrimination and sexual harassment. When women voice such important issues, they shouldn’t be written off or turned into a political issue. By guaranteeing an unbiased and equitable investigation, the legislative branch must lead by example, he stated.
He called on the Senate President and other members of Congress to resolve the issue in a way that demonstrates to the public and the world community the Senate’s dedication to justice and equity. The former president of the Senate reiterated his call for an impartial and transparent inquiry. “The Senate cannot be portrayed as a body that condones victimization, sexual harassment, gender bias, and power abuse. We strengthen trust in our democracy and institutions by permitting an open investigation,” he continued.
