In a letter written by Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government, Fubara summoned the lawmakers to a meeting on Monday at Government House in Port Harcourt. Following the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate the 27 parliamentarians under the leadership of Speaker Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, the Governor extended an invitation.
Following the top court’s decision, the 27 MPs who support Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), gave the governor a 48-hour ultimatum to re-present the 2025 budget when session resumed. The governor’s invitation sparked optimism that the state’s nearly two-year political crisis might be resolved.
Our source did learn, however, that the politicians might not accept the invitation today, Monday. In a video clip that went viral on Sunday night, assembly member Lolo Isaiah Opuende declared that the governor should “dey his dey” (be by alone) while the lawmakers would follow suit.
The member for Akuku-Toru Constituency 2 recalled that their principal had anticipated that both sides would eventually part ways when the political crisis started. “How can you write a letter and post it on social media and expect us to honor it?” Opuende asked Governor Fubara, raising further concerns about the invitation transmission method.
