According to The Sun News, former President Goodluck Jonathan has firmly denied any association with a recent online report alleging that he endorsed President Bola Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.The report, which circulated on some online platforms, bore the headline “Tinubu will win 2027 presidential election: Goodluck Jonathan” and claimed that the former president predicted Tinubu’s victory while stating that no political coalition would be able to stop his re-election. The publication further alleged that Jonathan made the remarks in Seoul, South Korea, where he was recently honoured with the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize.
Reacting to the report, Jonathan’s Media Office categorically dismissed the claim, labelling it as entirely false and misleading. The clarification was made in a statement shared via Facebook on Wednesday by the ex-president’s special adviser, Ikechukwu Eze.“The attention of the Media Office of His Excellency Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2010–2015) has been drawn to a piece of fabricated information bearing the above headline, currently making the rounds on certain social media platforms,” the statement read.
“This is nothing but fake news, deliberately concocted by agents of disinformation with the intent to mislead the public and drag the former president into political conversations he has not been a part of,” it continued.The Media Office emphasised that at no point did Jonathan speak to any journalist or issue any statement regarding the 2027 general elections, whether in South Korea or elsewhere.
They urged the public to disregard the false publication and cautioned against the spread of unverified claims aimed at misrepresenting the former president’s views or dragging him into partisan politics.
