Security operatives attached to the Zamfara State Government House on Thursday stopped journalists from covering the 2025 budget presentation at the State House of Assembly.
The journalists arrived at the House of Assembly Complex for the occasion billed to commence at 10:00 am but were denied access to the chamber by the security operatives.
The security personnel blocked all the entrances to the chamber and refused to allow journalists access.
Despite the intervention of the governor’s spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the security men insisted that the journalists would not be allowed in.
Idris pleaded with the security operatives, but they turned a dead ear.
A DSS officer, who led the security operatives, declared that the journalists would not be allowed enter the chamber. He warned his subordinates not to open the gate for the newsmen.
A source at the Assembly Complex said the action of the security operatives was deliberate, noting that the lawmakers have not formed the required quorum to receive Governor Dauda Lawal for the budget presentation.
“Certainly, it’s deliberate because of the number of the members at the chamber as they haven’t met up the quorum,” he said.
According to him, out of the 24 members, only eight were in the chamber for the presentation.
