Belgium: Club Brugge coach defends Onyedika after harsh red card

Club Brugge head coach Nicky Hayen has shared his thought on Raphael Onyedika’s red card against Sporting Charleroi, DAILY POST reports.

The defensive midfielder was sent off by the centre referee in the 55th minute for a poor tackle.

Hayen declared that the decision by the match official was harsh.

“That is never a red card. Yes, he (Onyedika) goes in hard, but not with the studs on the ankle. That was not a dangerous action and he also touches the ball,” Hayen said after the game

“It is not that he hits him full on the ankle or the foot. I think yellow was certainly enough,” the gaffer said after the game.

Onyedika will now miss Brugge’s next three league games against Union St Gilloise, Westerloo and Anderlecht.
