Political analyst Opunabo Inko-Tariah discussed the political climate in Rivers State and commended Governor Sim Fubara for his accomplishments thus far in a recent interview with Silverbird TV. He highlighted significant distinctions between Fubara’s and his predecessor Nyesom Wike’s approach. Inko-Tariah said that despite the political crisis in the state, Fubara has continued to deliver good governance. “He has done 54 projects in just 2 years and hasn’t even touched the federal allocation,” he stated, explaining that Fubara is mainly working with the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
He also criticized Wike’s past administration, claiming that in 8 years, Wike built only 12 flyovers using funds refunded by the federal government for projects originally done by former Governor Rotimi Amaechi. “What about human development?” Inko-Tariah asked. “Under Wike, there were no promotions, and scholarships were canceled, leaving students stranded abroad.”
He commended Fubara for doing both human and infrastructural development. Promotions have resumed in the state, and construction is ongoing at a fast pace.Inko-Tariah also questioned the call for a state of emergency, saying that the state is peaceful and projects are being funded properly.
Speaking on the ongoing power struggle, he revealed, “His predecessor told us that he had paid for all the contracts he awarded. But his successor (Fubara) completed payment for many of them, but because he thought he was his godson, he wasn’t going to be exposed.”
