According to punch newspaper, Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has spoken publicly about the striking resemblance between his late son Ifeanyi and his newly born son, describing it as “scary” and emotionally overwhelming. In a recent interview with American media personality Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1, Davido opened up about how the loss of his first son in 2022 reshaped his life and how the birth of twins in 2023 brought new hope and healing to his family.

Davido’s first son, Ifeanyi, tragically died in a drowning incident at the singer’s Banana Island residence in Lagos on November 1, 2022. The incident left a deep void in the singer’s life. Following the tragedy, Davido withdrew from public engagements for a while, only making brief appearances. Months later, he confirmed that he had secretly married his longtime partner Chioma Rowland. In October 2023, the couple welcomed twins — a boy and a girl — nearly a year after Ifeanyi’s death. Their formal wedding ceremony followed in June 2024, attracting attention across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.

Speaking in the interview, Davido expressed the emotional complexity of dealing with such a significant loss and the subsequent joy of new life. He remarked, “That type of loss made you just be like, ‘I’m out’. I am just going to chill, take care of my wife and take care of the family and get my head right. To come back from that and…to be blessed with twins out the gate; a boy and a girl.” He noted that the resemblance between his late son and the new baby boy was uncanny, stating, “The boy looks just like my son (Ifeanyi) that passed. It is scary. It’s like literally him. We’re like, ‘No, it’s him. He came back’ type stuff.”

The singer also explained how the painful experience gave him a new outlook on life. Davido now sees himself as a source of strength and encouragement to others dealing with personal loss or hardship. He credited his marriage and the success of his 2023 album Timeless as important markers in his personal and spiritual journey, saying, “God is real,” as he reflected on the transformative moments of the past few years.
