After 20 Years in Nollywood, I Cannot Boast of a Bag of Water, There is Nothing to Show - Okonkwo Revealed.

Nollywood actor, Benson Okonkwo, has opened up about his struggles in the Nigerian film industry, lamenting the lack of tangible rewards despite dedicating two decades to his acting career. His revelation has stirred emotional reactions from fans and colleagues, shedding light on the often-unspoken challenges faced by many in the creative industry.

Okonkwo, who has appeared in numerous Nollywood productions over the years, disclosed that he remains financially unstable and is yet to achieve any substantial gains from his craft. His remarks underscore the grim reality of life behind the glitz and glamour often associated with celebrity status in Nigeria’s entertainment sector. During a recent interview with PUNCH, the actor explained that, although he consistently featured in movies, he was frequently not compensated for his work. This persistent lack of remuneration, he indicated, has left him disillusioned and frustrated. His candid account has amplified ongoing conversations about fair compensation, sustainability, and mental health in Nollywood.

He said: “I am having depression and suicidal thoughts. Please tell the world to come and save me. After 20 years in Nollywood, I cannot boast of a bag of water. There is nothing to show. A lot of actors cannot open up, but it is better I speak up than die in silence.”
