I told Abacha “Thank God you didn’t win presidency, you could kill someone based on hearsay” -Lamido

I told Abacha

Former Governor Sule Lamido said that during his time as chairman of the Nigerian Agricultural and Cooperative Bank (NACB), he had a bold conversation with General Sani Abacha, who was the military Head of State at the time. He stated that he told Abacha something he believed shocked him deeply. According to Vanguard, Lamido stated that he told Abacha that it was a good thing he never became a democratically elected president of Nigeria, else he would have ruled without fairness or justice

Lamido said that if Abacha had become a democratically elected president and someone simply told him that another person had committed murder, Abacha would have the accused person killed without verifying the facts. He said, “I then said something that must have shocked him: “Sir, thank God you didn’t win the presidency of Nigeria. We thank God, because you would have been a leader with no justice, because you could have someone killed based on ordinary hearsay”
