Haniyeh, a prominent Hamas figure, was instrumental in negotiating a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. He was killed on July 31 in Tehran, allegedly by an explosive device placed by Israeli operatives several weeks before his death. His assassination occurred just one day after attending the inauguration of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Katz’s statement also referenced other significant deaths attributed to Israeli actions. These included the September 27 bombing in Beirut that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and the October 16 killing of Yahya Sinwar, Haniyeh’s successor, in Gaza.
