revealed that the attackers assaulted three buses on Sunday, leading to the first kidnapping of four Nigerian Army personnel. One guy, PTE Usendu Emediong (24NA/87/7560), managed to escape, though. More than 35 passengers are said to have been kidnapped by the gunmen, who are thought to be herders, in the Enugu-Ezike incident, which took place in the Igbo Eze North local government area of Enugu State.
On Thursday, January 9, 2025, this occurrence happened on the Enugu-Nsukka Road. According to reports, the other passengers were abducted with PTE Victor Itiat Godwin (24NA/87/8348), Jeremiah Inimbom Thomas (24NA/87/7937), and PTE Usoro Ezekiel Paul (24NA/87/6751). According to an eyewitness, who was cited by SaharaReporters, the 17 kidnappers forced all of the passengers into the jungle after about an hour of operation.
“A 17-member ragtag Fulani herdsmen abduction group operated for almost 60 minutes on a busy road that connects the eastern and northern parts of the country, not far from where I’m staying in my hometown of Enugu-Ezike. “The road is terrible,” he remarked. At least 35 individuals were forcibly abducted from three 18-seater buses after they were successfully attacked. One of the victims escaped as the others were being moved into the bush. We learned that he is a soldier when he came out and told us about their kidnapping.
He claimed that he was traveling in one of the commercial trucks with three other troops from Akwa Ibom to Kaduna State. “About three local hunters from my hamlet came upon the kidnappers in the bush yesterday while going about their daily business, but they had to hide. One of the victims complained that he was too exhausted to keep going, but guess what? He was killed by gunfire.
Hours later, the dead body was discovered in the jungle by both the military personnel and the local hunters, who subsequently brought it to the morgue. Although there hasn’t been a forceful invasion to save the lives, a helicopter has been hovering over this town since Sunday morning, which has alarmed the locals. The person said, “I think the Fulani herders and the victims are not still in the bush.”
The soldiers’ abduction was verified by a military signal that reporters were able to get on Sunday. According to the letter, participants in the 87 Regular Recruits Intake (87RRI) were transported along the Enugu/Nsukka Road.
