This statement was given by Chief Wehere in response to the BRACED Union’s emergency congress, which was conducted on BU’s virtual platforms on Sunday. The recurrent pattern of Biafra supporters deftly incorporating Niger Delta ethnic nations into their Biafra map infuriated the pro-South-South bloc.
The BU helmsman described the trend as unsettling and emphasized that the BRACED states are not Igbos and are independent of the South-East, which is largely composed of Igbo tribes. As a result, they should not include any portion of the South-South Region on their Biafra map.
The national president of BU praised the initiative to send executive bills to the National Assembly to reintroduce regional governments as federating units of the Nigerian nation, which is part of the federal government’s restructuring program.
Additionally, BU praised the current South-South Development Commission (SSDC) draft and urged that an experienced individual like Ambassador Joe Keshi be appointed as the first Director-General of the planned SSDC because of his unparalleled exposure to regional and global development.
