According to Pastor David Ibiyeomie: I Don’t Care Who Says Otherwise. If You Remain Poor, It’s Against The Bible

 

 

In a recent video on YouTube, Pastor David Ibiyeomie has delivered a bold message asserting that poverty is not in alignment with the Christian faith. According to him, remaining poor contradicts the purpose of Christ’s death and resurrection, just as living in sin after salvation undermines the redemptive power of the cross.

In his teaching, Pastor Ibiyeomie emphasized that poverty is not only a societal issue but a spiritual one that believers must resist with the same intensity as they do sin. He likened remaining in poverty to rejecting the finished work of Christ, which includes not just salvation from sin, but also redemption from lack and insufficiency. To him, accepting a life of poverty is akin to denying the benefits of the resurrection.

He challenged believers to evaluate their spiritual understanding, highlighting that what each person comprehends from Scripture is what they enjoy. While many Christians passionately reject sin, he questioned why the same energy is not directed toward rejecting poverty, especially when Christ was made poor so that His followers might become rich.

Addressing the matter of association, Pastor Ibiyeomie drew parallels between engaging with sinners and aligning with poverty. He stated that just as Christians are called to preach to sinners without conforming to their ways, they are also called to help the poor without adopting poverty as a lifestyle. His point was that association should never override divine positioning—believers are called to uplift, not to conform.

According to him, “To remain poor is anatomical (i.e., unnatural) to Christianity.  I don’t care who says otherwise. If you remain poor, it’s against the Bible. Then you’re saying the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ are in vain. To remain a sinner is not acceptable.  If you remain a sinner, it means you didn’t accept Jesus.”

“Everybody gets angry with sin, but the part of the Bible you understand is what benefits you. Why are you angry with sin but not angry with poverty? He said:  Be angry with poverty too, because I was made poor that you might be rich.”
