In honour of Hazrat Fatima Zahra, the beloved daughter of Prophet Muhammad, who was born on this day, which is also known as National Women’s Day in Iran, Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei gave a speech today.
The purpose of Khamenei’s comments was to change the perception of Iran’s ties to these organisations, which Tehran has allegedly provided financial, military, and ideological assistance to. In order to make these coalitions appear natural and motivated by a shared goal rather than being planned by Iran, Khamenei emphasised their similar Islamic worldview. “The Islamic Republic doesn’t have proxy forces,” the Iranian leader said in response to the claim that Iran no longer has any proxies in the area. Yemen fights because they believe in it. Islamic Jihad, Hamas, and Hezbollah all fight because it is required of them by their beliefs.
He stated in a speech on December 22, 2024, “We don’t need proxy forces if we decide to take action against the enemy one day.” The Houthis in Yemen, for instance, have admitted to getting substantial support from Iran, especially in the development of their drone and missile systems, despite Khamenei’s denial of Iran’s involvement in aiding these organisations.
