In a disturbing video shared by Sahara TV, a local source from Ukum community in Benue State described the alarming situation caused by armed herders in the region. The source revealed that the herders, who are in charge of cattle, are heavily armed with AK-47 rifles, creating a dangerous environment for the community members.
The local narrated, “The herders invaded the community this morning, and all of them in charge of the cows have AK-47 rifles. It is very dangerous to go near them.” The source went on to explain that other armed individuals, traveling on motorcycles, were also part of the group, and they made threats against the people in the area. “They said they were going to change things, but it doesn’t really make sense,” the local added, expressing the confusion and fear that has gripped the community.
The situation has led to growing unrest, as residents are now terrified of the armed herders. “It’s risky, and it has been a long queue of people being afraid. We don’t feel comfortable at all,” the local said, adding that the threat of violence and intimidation is making it nearly impossible for the community to go about their daily lives.
