A farm guard in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Omadide Peter, has been killed and beheaded.
His assailants dumped his headless body in Erhiephihor community.
Fishermen on a fishing trip later recovered the severed head from the Erhiephihor community river in Udu Local Government Area.
According to sources, Peter, a father of one in his 30s, was allegedly killed for praying too much at midnight.
“Before he relocated from Otu-Jeremi to Ovwodokpokpor, his neighbours complained that they were being disturbed by his prayers and were tired of his midnight prayers.
“He recently relocated from Otu-Jeremi to his current place of abode, Ovwodokpokpor, before his unfortunate death,” a source said.
A conflicting account claimed that Peter was actually residing in the neighbouring Erhiephihor community in Udu LGA.
Though details remain unclear, the police have arrested three persons in connection with the killing and beheading of the victim.
When contacted, the Secretary-General of Erhiephihor, Mr Daniel Omohovwighren, stated: “The incident did not occur in Erhiephihor but in Ovwodokpokpor. After he was killed, his body was dumped in our community, Erhiephihor.
“Following the incident, both communities took action. Thankfully, the police and vigilante groups were invited, and they arrested some individuals—about three of them.
“The police took the corpse to the mortuary, and those arrested were initially detained at Ovwian Police Station. However, as of Thursday, the President Generals of both communities and the police transferred the suspects to Asaba.
“Additionally, the deceased’s head was not recovered from the Erhiephihor community river but from Ovwodokpokpor river. The suspects arrested are from Ovwodokpokpor, and one of them is called Mathew.
“Through the efforts of the President Generals of Erhiephihor and Ovwodokpokpor, three suspects have been arrested—one from Ovwodokpokpor, one Ijaw, and one Yoruba,” he said.
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, confirmed the incident.
