OSOGBO: The hotel industry in the entire old city of Ile Ife and its surrounding area has been negatively impacted by the terrible death of Timothy Adegoke, a master’s degree student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile Ife, on November 5, 2021, in a hotel owned by Chief Raheem Adedoyin. According to an investigation completed on Saturday, the incident has caused the local hotel and leisure industries to reach their lowest points, and operators have continued to bemoan the impact the case is having on their operations.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
“The thing is that we cannot just voice out openly on the dearth of customers in the last four years when the incident happened and what we are passing through,” bemoaned one of the local hotel operators who has chosen not to have his name printed. “Some of us have filed for bankruptcy because we were unable to pay back loans from financial institutions because of the exorbitant interest rates that were accrued on such loans. We ask God Almighty to ease the anxiety brought on by the incident.
Speaking to Saturday, Chief Adenitan Adewale (not real name), a hotelier and another well-known Ile Ife resident, called the incident regrettable and odd in the historic town, adding that “since Ile Ife is the birthplace of the Yoruba race, we frequently have a lot of foreign tourists staying in our hotels during their tour and no such incident has occurred in the past.”

On behalf of the Respondents, the Osun State government, the court rendered a decision convicted of conspiracy to kill, unlawful killing, accessory after the fact, and several other offenses based on the grounds established by the appellate court. Nevertheless, the Appellate Court overturned the Trial Court’s ruling requiring the prisoners to pay for the education of Timothy Adegoke’s surviving children.
However, Adegoke was staying at the Adedoyin hotel at the time of the event. The conviction that Dr. Raheem Adedoyin should be hanged has already been maintained by the Federal Court of Appeal in Akure, the capital of Ondo State. The Osun State High Court had already given him a death sentence. In a case involving conspiracy to murder, concealing of Adegoke’s death, and his subsequent murder in his Hilton Hotel in Ile Ife, Osun State, Justice Adepele Ojo, the Chief Judge of Osun State, delivered the verdict.
In addition to Adedoyin, the Osun High Court found two of his hotel employees, Adeniyi Aderogba and Oyetunde Kazeem, guilty in the murder case of Adegoke, who passed away between November 5 and November 7, 2021. The court’s ruling was primarily based on circumstantial evidence that suggested Adedoyin and his employees were involved in the murder. The court observed that Adedoyin’s defense was undermined by his failure to testify or offer an alibi.
As a result, Adedoyin and two employees were given death sentences by hanging over their claimed involvement in the removal of Adegoke’s body from the hotel grounds by Justice Ojo. Adedoyin and his co-defendants, unhappy with the result, went to the Appeal Court in an attempt to reverse the High Court’s ruling. In a unanimous ruling, Justice Oyebisi Omoleye, speaking for the other judges of the Appeal Court, supported Justice Ojo’s order to hang Adedoyin and two of his employees.

The trial court’s decision to surrender the convict’s property to the state government was also overturned by the appellate court. Two of Adedoyin’s hotels, the Hilton Honoured Hotel on the Ife Ibadan Express Road, where the sad murder took place, and another hotel of the same name in Parakin, Mayfair, Ile Ife, have been under lock and key and have security personnel on duty since the incident in 2021.

The attempt to rename the hotel in Parakin as “Excellence Hall Hostel” in order to delist it from security watch was unsuccessful. However, students currently live in Excellence Hall as their residence hall. In addition, the convicted individual founded Raheem Adedoyin College of Engineering and Technology in Ile Ife, Oduduwa University (OOU) in Ile Ife, and The Polytechnic, Ile Ife, the first privately owned polytechnic in Nigeria.
According to reports, the prisoner was also the founder of Trinida and Tobago’s sole university. Undoubtedly, there was a large-scale student exodus from the aforementioned institutions at the time of the incident, and those who were applying for admission also avoided them.
