Recall that at least 35 children were killed in southwestern Oyo State on Wednesday, December 18. On Saturday, December 21, 22 people died in southeastern Anambra State, while 10 died in the capital, Abuja, where more than 1,000 people had gathered at a church to receive clothes and food.
These incidents raised concerns about the extent of hunger in the country, with many blaming the government for the number of deaths during the stampedes.
Reacting to the incidents, Dr Gololo slammed President Bola Tinubu for his refusal to admit the failure of his government, which caused the hunger in the land.
He stated that Nigerians would not regret voting him out in the 2027 elections, as he also hinted that he does not regret removing fuel subsidies.
Dr Gololo said, “He said he does not regret removing the subsidy, well, that’s a good one. But personally, I won’t regret voting him out in 2027 because, with this hunger, you say you don’t have regrets. He would have said, ‘My people, I’m sorry that this happened and we are still working on things. But you just came out to say you don’t have regrets. Fine, we too will not have regrets to remove you in 2027. You also did not send a clear message to Nigerians that you are sorry following the deaths of Nigerians during the sharing of food items. Whereas you blamed the poor organisers for the incident. It is very wrong, Mr President. You are the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not a governor or senator. A president with over 200 million people. You could have apologized and promised that such things will not happen next Christmas or Salah.
It is sad news for the people of Anambra State, and I sympathise with them. You should have sympathised with them first. I, as a person and citizen of Nigeria, sympathise with the people of Anambra, Oyo, and Abuja. Even as a Muslim, I am not happy my Christian brothers and sisters are dying because of Christmas rice. This thing has never happened since the creation of Nigeria, where people die while sharing food.
It is very embarrassing for a country like Nigeria, the giant of Africa, to see that because of rice, we lost our brothers. Your excellency, we are happy as you said you have no regrets to remove fuel subsidy. We too will not have regret to vote you out in 2027.
