The Catholic Archdiocese of Kafanchan, through its Chancellor, Reverend Father Jacob Shanet, has confirmed the killing of a priest in charge of St Mary Catholic Church Tachira, in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna.
Confirming the killing in a statement, Reverend Father Jacob Shanet said the victim was abducted on Tuesday, 4th March 2025, at approximately 9:15 pm at his residence, but was found dead on Ash Wednesday, 5th March 2025.
Shanet added that the motive behind the killing is still unknown.
The Kaduna State Police Command also confirmed the killing.
DSP Mansur Hassan said that the Commissioner of Police has issued an order for the manhunt of the perpetrators, following the suspicious circumstances of the killing.
He said the circumstances of the priest’s death showed signs of a struggle.
