Champions League: Hamann names two favourites to win trophy

Former Germany midfielder, Didi Hamann, has picked Liverpool and Bayern Munich as his two ‘favourites’ to win the revamped Champions League.

The Reds are the only team with a perfect record in the competition after six games.

Liverpool, who won the trophy in 2019, beat Girona 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Arne Slot’s men have also opened up a four-point gap at the top of the Premier League table with a game in hand.

Bayern Munich thumped Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 on Tuesday too, to climb to eighth place.

On the Bundesliga table, they are currently sitting six points clear of their domestic rivals.

“My Champions League favourites at the moment are Liverpool and Bayern Munich, but I think the Milan clubs could pose a threat too,” Hamann told Genting Casino.

“Barcelona have fallen off a bit and Arsenal are capable, but how they lost to Bayern last year was really disappointing for them.”
