Destructions of drugs, health facilities in Cross River reprehensible – Obubra LG Chair

The Chairman of Obubra Local Government Council in Cross River State, Kingsley Arikpo, has described the destruction of medical facilities, vaccines, and other drugs in the council as reprehensible and wanton.

Speaking through the Supervisor for Health in the Council, Orim Okpa Etaba, Arikpo decried the extensive damage to drugs and their storage facilities.

The facilities were razed to the ground as a result of the internal crisis that rocked the Local Government Area last week.

Arikpo made the remarks while flagging off an immunization campaign against preventable diseases at the temporary site of Apiapum Health Centre in Obubra Local Government Area of the state.

While vowing that the perpetrators would be brought to book, Arikpo assured that his tenure would rehabilitate all moribund health centres in the wards across the Council area.

He called on the people to maintain peace and safeguard public infrastructure, especially health facilities.

While administering the vaccine, Arikpo advised all pregnant women and nursing mothers to avail themselves and their children of prompt vaccinations and other antenatal activities at the nearest health facilities to reduce child mortality rates in the state.

He also called on the federal government to address the health needs of the people by providing the necessary vaccines and other routine drugs to save lives at community health posts.

Responding, a woman leader in the Apiapum community, Madam Sarah Iron, expressed her elation over the swift response to the destruction, which she said raised the people’s hope for their health needs.
