Punch claims that Felicia’s story is a disturbing tale of emotional abuse and deceit perpetrated by people she once trusted. After initially reporting her ordeal to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in 2022, her case has since stopped, but she is still seeking justice at the age of 21.

Originally from Benue State, Felicia moved to Abuja to live with her aunt, Ngozi, and her husband, Emeka, hoping for a better future. She last saw her parents in 2016, and during her time in Abuja, all communication with them was closely monitored by the couple. According to Felicia, her experience took a dark turn in May 2021. On a Sunday morning, she was instructed by Emeka to skip church by pretending to be ill. She claims he then questioned her inappropriately and pressured her to behave in certain ways, all under the pretext of helping her family out of poverty. She resisted, but the pressure allegedly continued.

Over time, Felicia said these encounters became regular and emotionally distressing. She recounted being made to accompany Emeka on outings, during which she was often taken to places that left her uncomfortable. She said, “Each time we went to the market, he would branch to a hotel and forcefully have sex with me.” She was reportedly given medication on these occasions and told not to speak to anyone about her experience.

Felicia eventually confided in her aunt, hoping for protection. However, she said Ngozi dismissed her concerns and encouraged her to continue with what was being asked of her. At one point, Felicia claimed that Ngozi even witnessed an incident and responded by telling her everything was fine and that she should keep doing what she was doing.From then on, Felicia said she began to realize her aunt had been aware of the situation. When she tried to resist further, her aunt allegedly pressured her to continue, claiming it would help keep the family together.

Feeling isolated and unable to speak freely with her parents, Felicia said she was left with no support. She recounted a period of growing emotional stress and physical discomfort, but her complaints were ignored. She also alleged that Ngozi gave her personal items and asked her to make recordings for Emeka’s entertainment.Desperate to leave, Felicia began to save small amounts of money she found around the house. When she eventually told Emeka she needed assistance for a health-related issue, she received some money, which she used to escape and return to Benue.

Once home, her mother took her to the hospital, where a medical evaluation reportedly confirmed signs of trauma. That same year, Felicia contacted NAPTIP and reported her experience. But since then, she says, little progress has been made in the investigation.
